A life together in art.
Shona Nunan and Michael Francis Cartwright are Australian artists who have worked side by side for more than four decades. Their studios in Provence, Tuscany and Australia connect their daily work with the specialist traditions of carving, modelling and casting.
They met while studying art in Australia and travelled to Carrara in 1984, beginning a life shaped by sculpture, landscape and exchange. Their work has since entered public, institutional and private collections internationally.

Earth, body
and archetype.
Shona Nunan’s sculpture is rooted in the earth, the body and the timeless forms through which people have expressed protection, fertility, memory and belonging.
Raised in an artistic family, Shona spent a formative part of her childhood in the Australian outback. Ancient markings, expansive landscapes and the elemental presence of stone became lasting influences. Her Guardians, Warriors, Mothers and Leaf forms carry this history into an unmistakably contemporary sculptural language.

Michael Francis Cartwright
Journey, freedom
and transformation.
Michael Francis Cartwright works across sculpture, painting and drawing, moving between monumental forms and intimate works with an instinctive, exploratory freedom.
The sea, sky, travel, memory and transformation recur throughout his practice. Boats, birds, clouds and astronomers become symbols of passage: forms poised between stability and the unknown. The work begins through making and is complete when it feels resolved and alive.
